Proverbs 1:1-5:23

The Proverbs of Solomon, son of David the king,
to know wisdom, instruction and understanding.

To give subtlety to the simple, to the young man discretion.
To know how to answer, when the wise ask a question.

The fear of the Lord is where knowledge begins,
but fools despise wisdom and cling to their sins.

If sinners entice you, my son consent not.
Be content with God's blessings. Don't want what they've got.

Let discretion preserve you. Understanding shall keep.
Don't delight in the wicked. What they sow they shall reap.

Forget not my law, for it brings length of days.
Let not mercy forsake you. To do right always pays.

Trust in the Lord, with all of your heart.
Lean not on yourself. God's paths ne're depart.

Be not wise, my son, in your eyes.
Depart from evil, and flee from lies.

Honor God with your substance. Despise not correction.
Seek after instruction. Trust God for protection.

Attend to my words and seek after wisdom.
Put away perverse lips. God rewards you, and then some.

Let your fountain be blessed with the wife of your youth.
Don't be snared by your words.
Son, always speak truth.
